Subject: The Glass Ship

Location: Malytrh 2/A

Comment: The sexiest Building in Bratislava! Well that's my opinion. If you ever visit Bratislava this building is ten minuets walk from the centre. You must go to look. Ultra modern offices with a restaurant on the ground floor. Here photographed at dusk.

Subject: Maria Stepanova

Location: Central Bratislava

Comment: I came across this old lady selling fruit from her garden outside a large store in Bratislava. My guide Zuzana asked if I could take a few photos and Maria was happy to oblige. I took several tight crops and then noticed the Church cross in the background. I think it's a thought provoking image.

Subject: Self Portrait

Location: Typical Bratislava doorway

Comment: At the end of this session I decided to shoot a few images as self portraits with my models, Dusan, Lenka, Zuzana, and Rastislav, my only regret I wished I had picked up another camera for the shot, threes one behind the big door.

Subject: Miroslav Mensator

Location: Central Bratislava

Comment: Miroslav sold the Slovak equivalent of our Big Issue called NOTA BENE. He was so happy to be photographed. This shot uses a slow shutter speed to give the passers by a little movement. I sent Miroslav some prints I just hope he got them.

Subject: Zuzana and Rastislav

Location: Bratislava doorway

Comment: I had asked my guide all week if I could photograph her with Rastislav , they were both reluctant. Eventually they conceded and we were all pleased with the results. I used the image for a portrait advertisement in Lancashire Magazine.

Subject: Rastislav and my guide Zuzana or Sunny to me

Location: Central Bratislava

Comment: Rastislav an Architect and Sunny plan to marry next year. Sunny made my trip she was a first class guide speaking better English than me. This shoot took place on a Sunday morning in a busy street. We caused quite a commotion. This doorway is typical for Bratislava.

Subject: Bratislava Doorway

Location: Central Bratislava

Comment: I photographed dozens of doorways, my guide would just laugh and mutter "oh no not another" there are many amazing doors in the city. This one is typical very grand with a reflection of great architecture opposite.

Subject: Photographic exhibition

Location: Lower deck New Bridge Bratislava

Comment: This image is shot on a pedestrian walkway under a dual carriage way bridge crossing the River Danube. I visited this photography exhibition twice staying a couple of hours each time. It takes a good ten minutes to cross the bridge on foot and there are maybe forty images like the one in this shot. The exhibition features people who live in Petrzalka. The Concrete Jungle.

Subject: Janko the Farmer

Location: Barn at Kralova

Comments: Janko was one of my favourite Slovaks. A farmer of 57, I think he looks more like 45. He has the composure of a film star, and a great face. The day of the shoot my guide planned for me to photograph Janko working. However it poured with rain and we shot these portraits in a barn.

Subject: Nun helping old man

Location: Bratislava

Comment: This man could hardly walk and I do not
Exaggerate in saying it took him ten minutes to cross this busy road.

Subject: Aerial rigger

Location: Petrazalka

Comment: Petrazelka was one of my favourite places visited in Slovakia. Across the River Danube from the tourist area, I would not have seen it but for my guide. It is also called the Concrete Jungle. Row after row of communist style towerblocks. This rigger appeared from nowhere and did not use a safety harness. A simple but effective image.

Subject: The national Theatre and Fountain

Location: Huiezdoslav Square, Bratislava

Comment: The most photographed structure in Slovakia, a very prominent building in the main square in Bratislava. The cherub in the foreground is at the head of the fountain,

Subject: Flower Salesman

Location: Central Bratislava

Comment: I saw this man several times during my stay. He would hit the streets most evenings, only ever armed with six or seven Gladioli which he usually sold in a few hours. I guess he was ninety years old.

Subject: Hlavnenam Square

Location: Bratislava

Comment: A popular location with tourists this image was created after dark.

Subject: the Glass Ship

Location: Malytrh 2/A

Comment: The sexist Building in Bratislava! Ultra modern offices with a restaurant on the ground floor. Built like a ship and looks like a ship. The tall building in the background is the VUB Bank.

Subject: Dusan and Lenka

Location: Traditional staircase Central Bratislava

Comment: Shot using available light, models Dusan and Lenka were pleased with the results of this session The location picked by Zuzana my guide had an amazing ornate staircase.

Subject: Felix street entertainer

Location: Postova Bratislava

Comments: Felix from Munich, Germany was living and working in Bratislava as a street entertainer. Photographed here in a small square in the city.

Subject: Zuzana and Lenka

Location: Under New Bridge against Graffiti wall

Comment: Between shots Zuzana and Lenka got the giggles, an image I originally overlooked.
