Subject: Ansade apprentice mechanic<p/>Comment: The first time I saw Ansade crawling around under a Tata bus I was quite shocked. Although a small twelve year old, I soon realized this boy is highly skilled and well trained worker.<p/>Subject: Nanki washing an engine<p/>Comment: This small boy is washing an engine with petrol; no gloves and no glasses used!<p/>Subject: Ansade under a bus<p/>Comment: His height or lack of it is a great asset when working under commercial vehicles. Often using his feet and not hands to tighten nuts and bolts with a spanner.<p/>Subject: Nanki<p/>Comment: All three apprentices found it a novelty being photographed. This spanner is the length of this boy's torso.<p/>Subject: Ansade<p/>Comment: These boys' wages are similar to many Nepalese adults. Their position highly prized when fully trained; these boys will be made for life.<p/>Subject: Man welding<p/>Comment: Ansade looks away from the welding flash to protect his eyes.<p/>Subject: Almost finished<p/>Comment: Tightening a bolt using a spanner and his foot, Ansade listens to instructions given by the garage owner. Note the second larger boy under the bus!<p/>Subject: Refurbishing batteries<p/>Comment; Spark at fifteen was much older than the other apprentices. He had worked in this trade for just a year; he did however show great skill and maturity whilst working.<p/>Subject: Cleaning a battery body<p/>Comment: The Nepalese recycle many things! These large batteries are cut open and the lead cells replaced. All the cases are reused.<p/>Subject: Workshop door<p/>Comment: Ansade enters this small store where all the tools are kept. It was rare this boy was not smiling.<p/>Subject: filthy clothes<p/>Comment: By the end of each shift these young boys were filthy.<p/>Subject: Under a bus<p/>Comment: Ansade has a big advantage whilst working underneath commercial vehicles like this one. He is very small.<p/>Subject: Soldering battery cells<p/>Comment: Pictured one of the adults, love the ripped jeans in this image.<p/>Subject: Nanki<p/>Comment: Tiny in his oily jeans Nanki cleans an engine part in the door to his workshop.<p/>Subject: Spark<p/>Comment: A common sight in Nepal is men sat watching women work. Here it's the men watching the boy.<p/>Subject: Nanki<p/>Comment: Cleaning a gearbox, no glasses or gloves.<p/>Subject: Spark and Ansade<p/>Comment: At fifteen Spark towers over twelve year old Ansade.<p/>Subject: Attentive Ansade<p/>Comment: Always eager to listen and learn in his dirty clothes Ansade looks on while his boss shows him how to do it.<p/>
